Hi and welcome to the start of week 3 of your transformational journey!
In week 2 you will have increased your awareness especially around emotions and the contents deep in our unconscious mind which are contributing to our relationship with food.
Hopefully you have determined:
which mindfulness approaches work for you ... and how much awareness alone can have an impact on what you eat. Continue to take your measurements on a weekly basis, and notice how you're feeling and whether that's changing week on week.
whether you are procrastin-eating. Distraction is a common approach to uncomfortable feelings, do you know what you're feeding now? Has food become your distraction or avoidance of shame?
the difference between hunger and a craving
... and the last point brings me nicely onto this week's focus SUGAR ... well anything heavily refined really, but especially refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and refined flour.
I often refer to earth being a rehab planet … a lot of people following this programme will already have realised that they’re addicted to sugar or white flour. Heavily refined products can have quite an impact on our dopamine levels, the happy centre in our brain. Just think about:
the cocoa plant … coffee ... chocolate … cocaine
the opium poppy ... poppy sap … morphine … heroin
Sugar is slightly different to other substance addictions as throughout evolution our hunter-gather origins have driven us to eat food with high calorific values. Therefore when we consume sugar, we get a huge dopamine release as a reward. Unfortunately, evolution has not caught up with society.
Everyone will have an opportunity to experience Inner Journey designed especially for Beyond Dieting this week ... this may be a new experience or another chance to experience this lucid dream-type meditation where your unconscious mind will be given permission to let old stories go ...
